Town Improvements
Solicit youth input and provide youth perspective to assist the community in improving town amenities which supports the positive development of young people.
Current Initiatives:
A. Student Discount Partnership:
In collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association, the student discounts make local stores and restaurants more accessible for kids.
B. Town Advocacy:
Some activities have included providing polls for town committees, meeting with the Downtown Steering Committee, and collaborating the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants Association.
C. Outdoor Movies & Other Social/Recreation Outlets
The Committee has presented friendly film nights at locations like the Levitt Pavilion (under the Teenflix banner) and is working to revive an outdoor movie series.They are also exploring other safe opportunities for Westport youth in the social and recreational landscape.
D. Westport Youth Connections Series
The Westport Youth Commission is developing a monthly series of workshops with clubs and sports teams at Staples High School to be delivered to elementary and middle school aged youth in our community. The purpose of the program will be to promote community, positive role models, and introduce younger students to some of the creative, academic, and athletic opportunities available at the high school.
E. Study and Stress Relief at the Westport Library & Toquet Hall:
Working with the Westport Public Library and Toquet Hall Teen Center to provide expanded study hours during exams as well as stress relief activities such as therapy dogs and bubble popping.
